Science and Technology Guests on Late Night, Week of February 2

There aren’t too many entries this week. Eddie Redmayne has at least one more awards show to attend for his work as Stephen Hawking, but his appearance on Conan tonight (Monday) will likely focus on his upcoming film Jupiter Ascending.  On Tuesday there is yet another sighting of a cast member of The Big Bang Theory.  Simon Helberg, who plays an engineer, will be on with Carson Daly.  Helberg has a new movie he is promoting.

The big news of the week is that MythBusters Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman will be on Live with Kelly and Michael this Friday.  The show’s new season continues in the United States Saturdays at 9 p.m.

In what could be a trend, I have to report on an episode of The Nightly Show after the fact as guest listings are not available in advance.  On January 27th the topic of the show was vaccinations.  The panelists in the second half of the show included comedian Judy Gold, Nightly Show contributor and comedian Mike Yard, CBS News Medical Correspondent Dr. Holly Phillips and Zoey O’Toole from Thinking Moms Revolution.  O’Toole is convinced that vaccines aren’t safe.  From some of the responses to the show, there are concerns that the last portion of the program seriously undercut Wimore’s analysis of vaccines earlier in the show.

Wilmore made it quite clear in the opening segments that vaccines are safe and effective, but neither he nor his guests were as effective in rebutting the arguments of O’Toole.  This was the program’s 6th episode, so while I understand the criticism over failing to manage the panel discussion portion of the show, I’m willing to give the show more time to figure out how to adjust things.
