White House Science Fair Returns Next Week

On May 27th the Obama Administration will host its fourth White House Science Fair (H/T Yahoo! News) As a buildup to the event, the White House Blog will feature .some of the young scientists whose work will be at the Fair.  In addition, this year’s event will have a theme – the young women and girls whose work is inspiring more females to engage in the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) disciplines.

On a related note, there is still not an official date for the first White House Maker Faire. Interested parties are encouraged to complete an online form, but it gives no clue about when it might happen; regardless of what this article on mayors embracing Maker Faires suggests.  As the mother Maker Faire took place in the Bay Area this past weekend, I’d be surprised to see a White House event take place so soon afterward.  However, if the White House is giving just a week’s notice on the Science Fair, the Maker Faire may happen any time.

(For those tracking dates and such, from my research the President announced the plan to hold White House Science Fairs in 2009, but the first fair did not take place until 2010.)
