Things ticked up for science and technology on late night in the last week of January. On the January 26 repeat of The Late Show, you could catch host Stephen Colbert lacerating a recent Facebook report on its activities in the 2016 U.S. election. That episode originally ran earlier in January.
On the January 27 new episode, Colbert noted the passing of former NBA star Kobe Bryant and eight others in a helicopter crash in part by discussing the lack of flight recorders in helicopters and how their presence in airplanes can help make improvements in flight safety. Colbert flew extensively in helicopters during a recent visit to New Zealand for the show, and lost three members of his family in a 1974 airplane crash that led to changes in flight procedures.
I’ll close the post by noting Kumail Nanjiani, who just recently finished his role as part of a tech start-up on Silicon Valley, was on twice last week. Both visits, however, focused on his upcoming work. He appeared on the January 28th Conan and with James Corden on the 29th.
