Two items worth passing along today rather than waiting for the usual Monday posting.
First, the CEO of Periscope, Kayvon Beykpour, will be on with Stephen Colbert tonight (Friday).
Second, I’ve neglected to mention appearances by Will Smith to promote his latest film, Concussion. It premieres in the U.S. on Christmas Day and tells the story of Dr. Bennet Omalu, played by Smith. Omalu is a pathologist who named Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy through his study of diseased football players and fought the National Football League. Smith was on The Daily Show Wednesday night to discuss the film.
And it is worth mentioning that several late night shows have noted the arrest of (now former) pharmaceutical CEO Martin Shkreli on securities fraud charges. Shkreli had recently been designated persona non grata due to his choice to dramatically raise prices on a life-saving drug after acquiring it. Combine that with some other dubious statements and Shkreli’s arrest has been met with the kind of schadenfreude that lends itself well to late night comedy.
