NIST Superheroes Spotted In Washington

I’m checking out this year’s Awesome Con in Washington, D.C. this weekend.  While I’m accustomed to seeing educational booths at things like science and technology festivals, I was surprised to see more than NASA representing science and engineering at a pop culture/science fiction convention.  I’ve no doubt missed some, but besides NASA, there was a table from IEEE-USA, and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).

Last year NIST created the League of SI Superheroes – SI being the abbreviation for International System of measurements (also called the metric system).  Some of them are at the convention this weekend in costume, spreading their message and mission of fighting Major Uncertainty.  There is even an animated adventure for your viewing pleasure.

(If anyone is at Awesome Con this weekend, send a Tweet to @p_phronesis if you’d like to meet)
