A bit of late-breaking news before the listings. It appears that monologues about Aristotle and Nobel Prizes are on their way out of American late night television. Earlier today Craig Ferguson announced he would be stepping down as host of The Late Late Show in December. Regular readers of these posts may remember Ferguson as one of the leaders in putting science and technology guests and content on his late night program.
For instance, I’m catching up with his show from April 24 as I write this. In his monologue he talked about recent news that a group of scientists have determined a means of controlling the weather (inducing rainstorms) via lasers.
He will be missed. With both Ferguson and David Letterman leaving, and with Stephen Colbert moving to a more general interest show, I expect these listings to get shorter over the course of 2015.
Bill Nye kicks off the week by appearing on Late Night with Seth Meyers Tuesday night. Lucy Liu, who plays Dr. Watson on Elementary, stops by to talk with David Letterman earlier that night, and joins Seth Meyers on Wednesday. Back to Tuesday, Kunal Nayyar of The Big Bang Theory stops by Conan.
The last entry of the week is “Science Bob” Pflugfelder, who makes yet another visit to Jimmy Kimmel Live! If Mr. Kimmel would have more science guests than Bob, it could be a reasonable substitute for one of the shows that is soon to depart the stage.
