The Big Johns of the title are John Flansburgh and John Linnell of They Might Be Giants (TMBG). They will be part of the big Expo at the end of the next USA Science and Engineering Festival. Longtime readers of the blog know how happy I am with this, as I mercilessly flogged the groups science-themed album Here Comes Science.
The Expo will take place in Washington April 26 and 27. The time and day for TMBG is still being clarified. No word yet on whether National Institutes of Health Director Francis Collins will join them on a song. Hopefully part of this planning is making sure the band gets the proper setup within the Convention Center. While Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman of MythBusters are not a musical act, they are perhaps the Festival’s biggest single draw to date, and the hall was not set up to handle the crowd. Events must not repeat themselves.
(The performance should also *not* be scheduled opposite the appearances of science/technical advisers for popular television shows. But that’s just my taste.)
