On a non-late-night note, next Sunday a broadcast network will be airing a special on a FIRST competition. FIRST is a robotics program spearheaded by Dean Kamen. It was founded in 1989, and the first annual robotics competition took place in 1992. The Sunday program is focused on the 20th Annual FIRST Robotics Championships held in St. Louis. Look for “i.am.FIRST — Science is Rock and Roll” on the ABC network at 7 Eastern and Pacific. More on this Sunday, though you may have guessed from the title that will.i.am and the rest of The Black Eyed Peas will be involved.
Summer reruns continue this week for some programs, notably The Late Show and The Late, Late Show on CBS. The Colbert Report comes through again, with Nassir Ghaemi on the show tonight. He’ll be promoting his book A First-Rate Madness, which examines the links between mental illness and successful leadership. Ghaemi runs the Mood Disorders Program at Tufts Medical Center, so he has medical experience in this area. That may distinguish his work from the recent book by Jon Ronson, who focused on psychopathy and success.
