Today in Irregular Science and Technology Appointments

The summer has been rather quiet for science and technology presidential nominations and appointments.  Aside from a new member of the President’s Council of Advisers for Science and Technology there have been a few nominations to the National Science Board.  The latter are pending Senate confirmation, but for once the nominations are for future vacancies rather than covering long-vacant positions.

Another exception to that pattern is the recent appointment of Steven VanRoekel to replace Vivek Kundra as federal Chief Information Officer.  The position is part of the Office of Management and Budget, and the CIO will also head the Office of Electronic Government.  VanRoekel will be the second person to hold the position.  I posted more about VanRoekel and the CIO position over at the blog for my day job.
