The dearth of guests continues, even though most shows are back from a week of reruns. The Comedy Central shows are in Washington this week, but at least one guest qualifies. Nicholas Negroponte, Founder of the MIT Media Lab, will visit with Stephen Colbert tonight. He’s also the driving force behind the One Laptop per Child project, which is trying to design, develop and distribute really inexpensive laptops to children in the developing world.
(There may be a late addition to the list, depending on who is the guest on Thursday’s The Daily Show. That information is not available as of this posting.)
If you have Planet Green on your cable system (it’s part of the Discovery family of networks), a new show premiered last Friday that sort of fits the category – it airs at 10 p.m. Dean of Invention is hosted by Dean Kamen, who’s probably best known as the inventor of the Segway, and Joanne Colan. The show focuses on cutting-edge breakthroughs connected to global challenges. That’s consistent with much of Kamen’s lesser known work, which includes water filters, ultra-mobility wheelchairs, and prosthetic limbs.
