Science and Technology Guests on Late Night, Week of October 10
Posted by David Bruggeman on October 10, 2011
With The Daily Show and The Colbert Report in repeats, this will be another weaker week for science and technology guests on late night. MythBusters continues its latest series of new episodes, and those who haven’t seen Dan Riskin talk with Craig Ferguson about the scientific method should check out last Thursday’s (10/6) Late Late Show. (Riskin currently hosts Daily Planet on Discovery Canada.) In other good bits from last week, both Stewart and Colbert had send-offs for Steve Jobs on their Thursday programs. And if you should feel like leaving the house, Contagion, Moneyball and Dolphin Tale are all still in theaters.
(Speaking of those repeats, the recent visit of Moneyball author Michael Lewis will run on Monday’s Daily Show. Lewis, however, has a new book out, and that is the focus of the interview.)
Carson Daly emerges from the wee hours for an entry this week. Tiffany Schlain, a filmmaker whose work often focuses on issues related to technology, will appear on Tuesday’s show. Her latest work, Connected: An Autoblogography about Love, Death & Technology is making the rounds now. Also on Tuesday is Deepak Chopra, who, while not a proper scientist, has just released a book on science and spirituality (written with physicist and author/television writer Leonard Mlodinow). He’ll be bringing his special brand of woo to Conan.
There are a couple of ‘sort-ofs’ this week. Animal expert Dave Salmoni will visit The Tonight Show on Tuesday. Joshua Topolsky, the ‘tech expert’ for Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, visits on Thursday. The segment will likely be some gadgets and may include some discussion of the passing of Steve Jobs.
While there are no science or technology guests scheduled for the shows in question, I’ll be checking out a couple of programs as they are taped this week, and will Tweet should there be any science and tech stuff to report.
