Creation Finds American Distributor

Creation, the film version of Annie’s Box, the story of Charles Darwin’s struggles over whether or not to publish On The Origin of Species, has found U.S. distribution (H/T A Man With a Ph.D.).  The film is directed by Jon Amiel, stars Paul Bettany and Jennifer Connolly as Charles and Emma Darwin, and opened this weekend in the United Kingdom.  It opened the Toronto Film Festival, and prompted a bit of a tempest when a producer suggested that America was not interested in a film even sniffing at evolution.  Newmarket Films, an independent film distributor, owns American distribution rights.  It also distributed The Passion of the Christ in the U.S., as Icon Productions distributed both films in the U.K.  Whether that’s ironic or simply business I’ll leave to the reader to figure out.  No official release date has been mentioned as yet, though one report suggests some time in December.
