First Ever NIH Chief of Staff Speaks
Posted by David Bruggeman on September 15, 2009
The Scientist is running an interview with Kathy Hudson, Chief of Staff for National Institutes of Health Director Francis Collins. The Chief of Staff position is new to the NIH, but collects many functions that had previously been located in the Director’s Office. Hudson comes to NIH from Johns Hopkins, where she was the founder of their Genetics and Public Policy Center. This is not her first tour of duty with Collins, as she worked with him when Collins was Director of the National Human Genetics Research Institute. It’s good for putting a face to a name, but the interview itself isn’t the most illuminating. That’s probably because she was on the job less than a week at the time of the interview. That said, the main takeaway point is that Hudson will serve as Collins’ right hand in the direction of the agency, making sure that his plan is being implemented.
